Server solutions for Saudi enterprises that still need on-premise

Cloud-first doesn’t mean cloud-only. Most Saudi mid-market and enterprise environments still run a substantial server footprint on-premise — for data residency, latency, regulatory, OT-integration, or commercial-licensing reasons. The decision isn’t cloud-vs-server; it’s getting the cloud-vs-server split right for each workload.

Unifiedway delivers server solutions across the Kingdom — design, procurement, installation, virtualisation, and operations of physical and virtual server infrastructure. We work with HPE, Dell EMC, Lenovo, and Cisco UCS hardware, virtualised on VMware, Hyper-V, or Nutanix, with backup and DR built in from the start.

Why on-premise still matters for Saudi organisations

Three drivers keep server footprints in the Kingdom. First, data residency: certain regulated data must stay in Saudi Arabia, and while AWS and Microsoft now have KSA regions, not every workload is cleared for them. Second, latency: industrial control systems, hospital biomedical integration, and real-time logistics platforms need millisecond response times that fit better with local servers. Third, commercial reality: an organisation depreciating SAR-millions of HPE hardware over five years can’t justify a forklift-to-cloud migration before that hardware is fully written down.

The right move for most KSA organisations is a hybrid: cloud for elastic and SaaS-native workloads, on-premise for data-resident, latency-sensitive, or capex-amortised workloads, and managed-cloud (AWS Outposts, Azure Stack, Oracle Cloud@Customer) for the cases that need cloud control plane with local hardware.

What’s included in our server solutions

Server hardware design and supply

HPE ProLiant DL/ML/MicroServer, Dell PowerEdge R/T, Lenovo ThinkSystem, and Cisco UCS — chosen by workload, redundancy needs, and operational fit. We provide BoM, supply, configuration, and installation.

Hyperconverged infrastructure (HCI)

Nutanix, VMware vSAN, and HPE SimpliVity for organisations consolidating compute, storage, and virtualisation into a single platform. Reduces operational overhead vs separate compute/storage stacks.

Virtualisation

VMware vSphere, Microsoft Hyper-V, Nutanix AHV, and KVM-based platforms. Includes cluster design, vMotion/Live Migration setup, HA/DRS configuration, and capacity planning.

Storage

SAN (HPE Primera/Alletra, Dell PowerStore, NetApp), NAS (NetApp, QNAP, Synology), and direct-attached storage. Tiering strategy for hot/warm/cold data with cost vs performance modelled.

Backup and recovery

Veeam Backup & Replication, Commvault, and Veritas — with appropriate target storage, offsite replication, and immutable backup design to defend against ransomware. Tested recovery, not just tested backup.

Server room and small data centre design

Power (UPS, generator, PDU), cooling (CRAC, in-row), fire suppression, monitoring, and physical access control. For organisations building or upgrading on-premise compute capacity.

Server lifecycle management

Asset tracking, firmware management, patching, capacity monitoring, and refresh planning.

Microsoft Server licensing optimisation

Windows Server, SQL Server, and System Center licensing reviewed against actual usage. Most clients overspend on licensing — we identify where to right-size.

How we deliver

  1. Workload assessment — what runs where, what depends on what, and which workloads should move where over 24 months.
  2. Design — hardware, virtualisation, storage, backup, and DR architecture documented.
  3. Procurement — manufacturer-direct or partner channel, with delivery scheduled to your project timeline.
  4. Build and configuration — racked, cabled, configured, and validated in our staging facility before site delivery where possible.
  5. Migration — workloads moved from old to new with validated rollback plans.
  6. Backup and DR validation — recovery tested before production cutover.
  7. Handover and documentation — runbooks, configurations, and operational procedures delivered.
  8. Optional managed service — patching, monitoring, capacity management, and incident response.

Industries we serve

  • Hospitality — PMS servers, POS infrastructure, and back-of-house systems with high-availability designs.
  • Healthcare — clinical and administrative servers with the uptime requirements of patient-facing systems.
  • Financial services — SAMA-aligned server infrastructure with documented controls and tested DR.
  • Government and semi-government — on-premise deployments for data-resident workloads.
  • Manufacturing and logistics — production-floor and warehouse servers, often with industrial uptime requirements.
  • Education — campus servers for student information systems and learning platforms.
  • Professional services — document management, ERP, and email/collaboration servers.

Why Unifiedway for server solutions

Our infrastructure team holds VMware VCP, Microsoft Server certifications, Veeam VMCE, and HPE/Dell/Lenovo product certifications. We are partner-tier with HPE, Dell EMC, and Lenovo with access to manufacturer pricing and warranty escalation. Our project managers are PMP-certified. We deliver across the Kingdom, with stock of common server SKUs available for fast turnaround. And we don’t just sell hardware and walk — most clients keep us on for managed operations, which means the people who built it are the people who fix it.

Frequently asked questions

Should we move to cloud instead of refreshing on-premise servers?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no, usually a mix. We help you make the workload-by-workload decision during assessment. Cloud is right for some workloads and wrong for others, and the answer depends on your data, your regulatory exposure, your usage pattern, and your finance model.

HPE, Dell, or Lenovo?

We work with all three. Choice typically comes down to existing fleet, partner pricing on the day, support footprint in your specific cities, and any preferences your operations team has. None is universally better.

Do we need hyperconverged infrastructure?

HCI simplifies operations and reduces silos but at higher per-VM cost than separate compute/storage. If your team is small and operational simplicity matters more than per-VM cost, HCI is often the right answer. If you have specialist storage or compute teams, a 3-tier architecture can be cheaper.

What about backup against ransomware?

We design backup with immutable storage (object lock or air-gapped media), offline copies, and tested recovery. Modern ransomware specifically targets backup repositories — defending against that is part of the design.

Will you support our existing servers, or only new ones you sell?

We support both. Many clients have us operate the existing fleet while planning the next refresh.

How long does a server refresh take?

Standalone server: 2–4 weeks. Virtualisation cluster of 10 hosts: 6–10 weeks. Full datacentre refresh: 3–6 months.

What does it cost?

Hardware varies widely by SKU. Professional services scoped per project. Free scoping call to size.

Take the next step

Most server projects fail at design, not implementation — because nobody made the workload-placement decisions explicit upfront. Book a free workload assessment and we’ll deliver a written recommendation. Pair server solutions with cloud computing, networking services, and cyber security for a coherent infrastructure programme.
